UofSC Holiday Card

What started as a holiday card that didn't win a competition ended up becoming a seasons card that would be received by over 1,000 alumni and faculty within the University of South Carolina. Working on this Holiday Card allowed me to learn about preserverence and how no effort is wasted.

I started this card with the intention of entering a competition that was held at the University of South Carolina. I wanted to include the Horseshoe, which is a popular location amongst students, as well as out mascot. I wanted to convey the feeling of the season by illustrating what it felt like to walk across campus to classes with a warm cup of coffee in hand. Although I didn't win, I was asked if I could remaster this design for the College of Arts and Sciences. Gladly, I went to work.

I started my rework with cleaning up the lineart and coloring of the background and foreground. Additionally, I decided to make the scene feel the viewer was there on campus so I added a back to the card that connected to the front. Each snowflake is created with a unique design as a callback to the one winter it snowed in South Carolina and all the students went out to play on the Horseshoe.

I was ecstatic to see the final product and hear from my professors who received it in their mail. My coworkers forward the compliments I received on behalf of my work and I realized through this experience how much illustration can impact the people around you.
