Princess Children's
Book Illustration
For a case study on children's illustration I was assigned with choosing a spread from a children's book and designing how I would interpret the words
For the project I chose the book, The Secret Lives of Princesses, by Philippe Lechermeier and Rébecca Dautremer. I loved the imagery and dialogue of all the different princesses and how the author included fantasy and whimsy throughout the book.

I began with creating different sketches of my interpretations of each of the princesses based on their description. Each princess had their own quirks which allowed for variety amongst each sketch.

I moved on with choosing 2 of the 30 sketches and designing a quick thumbnail of a layout of what a book spread would look like for each princess.

After, I moved on to creating the final illustrations. After a year, I decided to revisit the project and recreate each spread to see how my craft had improved over that year and I was impresses with how in one year I could learn and change so much.

The final mockup includes the original text from the children's book as well as what my illustrations would look like while a child is turning through the pages. I was very honored to have my little brother see my final illustrations and say he loved my artwork.
